SPRING!

I can see grass!! I can finally see grass!  Here at NMSA, we are starting to get really excited for our 2018 season!  So far this year, we have had more registrations than we have had in many previous years by this point!  We have made some changes to the Association and it seems to be paying off!

Registration at our early bird pricing will remain in effect until April 8th and will wrap up following the end of The Newmarket Home Show!  As always, you can expect to see us there!  Feel free to stop by our booth to register the kids, or to register yourself for our NEW 30+ co-ed 3-pitch fun league!  The Newmarket Home show will be on from April 6th-8th!

SPONSORS NEEDED

Although we are happy to be welcoming back many sponsors again this year, it seems we will have some room for a few new sponsors this year!  If your company would like more info about sponsoring a team this year, contact Alexis, director of marketing at directorofmarketing.nmsa@outlook.com.  Sponsorship is an excellent way to contribute to your community while spreading awareness about your company.

COACHES. THE GAME CAN'T HAPPEN WITHOUT THEM.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

As always, our Association runs on volunteers and we can’t do it without you!  If you are available to coach, even on a part-time basis, please express your interest by contacting us through our website or by contacting directorofhouseleague.nmsa@outlook.com

The Fall and Winter are for Planning!

Peanuts___Winter_Baseball_by_Atma94

With the Annual General Meeting behind us, it is time to get to work planning for a fantastic 2018 year!  We are so excited about some of the ideas that we have up our sleeves and can’t wait to share them with you!

CLINICS

We will be running winter clinics again.  Watch for details on when they will start, location and THEME NIGHTS!!

THE NEWMARKET HOME SHOW

The Newmarket Minor Softball Association is excited to be apart of The Newmarket Home Show yet again this year, running from April 6th-8th, 2018.  Do not forget that the weekend of the Home show is also our deadline for EARLY BIRD PRICING!

BOARD MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS

Although we were lucky to receive 2 new members to our Board this year (Board introductions to come), we still have some open positions on our Executive Board.  If you’ve been thinking about volunteering but can’t commit a lot of time, please know that volunteering for the board and on the field is not a large time commitment!  Our Board meets once a month for planning and budget.  If you are at all interested in finding out how you can help out, email us and let us know!  We would be happy to explain any available positions to see if it might be a right fit for you!  It’s also a fantastic opportunity to meet some other adults with a common interest!

UMPIRES AND COACHES NEEDED

We will be looking for umpires and coaches this year too!  What a great way to join the game!  Parents, our kids learn good sportsmanship from good leaders!  If you can be an encouraging and positive force for our teams, even on a part-time basis, give us a shout!

THERE’S MORE TO SAY, BUT I HAVE TO SAVE SOME SECRETS FOR THE NEW YEAR!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Rain-Outs

Although it may be true that a little rain never hurt anyone, it sure does spoil Softball!  We’ve all been feeling let down by the rain lately.  We all love coming to the diamonds!  Please know that we will be making best efforts to make up games and hopefully tack them on here and there…..now, does anyone happen to know a ‘sun dance’?

Opening Weekend Thanks!

We got a little rained on over the Opening Weekend, but Saturday turned out to be a glorious day and it was a good thing too because that’s when the majority of the Opening Weekend game play happens and when we got to do our team photos.  Team Photos went great this year.  Special thanks to our Equipment Manager, Cynthia Walters, for keeping us all coordinated for the team picture schedule.  We would also like to thank The Newmarket Lion’s Club for sponsoring Opening Weekend and to Bob Hawkins Professional DJ Services for providing us with great tunes for the day!

We were so lucky to also have many volunteers that came out to help, cheer on the teams and just generally make sure things went smoothly.  We’ve said it many times, and it’s always true…our volunteers truly make The Newmarket Minor Softball Association the great organization that it is!

Garage Sale

yardsale-mania-2

Our ‘Garage Sale’ tent was a massive success this year and we are so pleased to see so many players going off with used bats, practice balls, t-shirts and ball pants at VERY reasonable prices.  All the proceeds of the garage sale are going toward our fundraising goal of affording some new Catcher’s Equipment for the Association.  Thank you to all the players, parents, coaches and community members that came out to support our garage sale!  Also please note that we still have softball pants available in various sizes.  If you did not have the opportunity to purchase pants and are still interested, please contact the Equipment manager, Cynthia Walters to check for sizing and availability at equipmentmanager.nmsa@outlook.com

Fundraising

Our A Spice Above fundraiser went off without a hitch and by now most of you should have received your order.  If not, it should be coming to your team at the next game.  Alternately, you can make arrangements for your order by contacting Alexis McCue directorofmarketing.nmsa@outlook.com.  Thank you so much for your support!  You’ve brought us that much closer to our goal!

For those of you who have been waiting for the North Country Meats (Mcgregor Meats) fundraiser, don’t worry, it’s on it’s way!  We will have North Country Meats order forms available around the second week of July.  Further details to follow…….get the meatballs….they are awesome!

Pitching Clinics

Pitching Clinics have started on Monday evenings for Mite Squirt and older.  It’s important for our players to cultivate their skills so that they continue to enjoy and feel satisfaction from the game.  Pitching takes practice!  If you are interested in attending these FREE pitching clinics, please speak to your coach as spots are limited.

Have a great day and see you on the diamonds!

It’s Almost Softball Time!

Thank You

Thank you to those who came out to our Umpire Clinic on April 1st.  We are looking forward to a great Stingers season and hope that you enjoy yourselves too.

Clinics

Skills and Pitching Clinics are now finished and it’s time to get ready to play some ball.  It was so great to see people come out and get warmed up and work on their skills.  We would like to thank Elissa Sevil for overseeing our Pitching Clinics and Parent Volunteer, Todd Roberts for overseeing the majority of our Skills Clinics.  We hope those that participated felt the benefit of the practice time.

Opening Weekend

We are busy planning for Opening Weekend which will be May 26-28!  This is typically when team photos take place, so don’t forget to bring your smile!  Watch your email for further details.

Opening Weekend Yard Sale

yardsale-mania-2

Also, new this year, The Stingers are having a garage sale for Opening Weekend! Come and check out all the things we have had stashed away!  Great deals on all kinds of Stingers swag and gear.  We will also have softball pants for sale…..for cheap…….really cheap……so cheap, it’s almost embarrassing 😉

First Days of Game Play

By now, you will have received an email for when game play is starting.  Our first games will be next week!  As we will *hopefully* be seeing more and more consistently warm and sunny days, don’t forget water bottles and sunscreen! Also, we would like to remind everyone that sliding is a part of the game and Players are strongly urged to wear softball pants, which can be purchased (while quantities last) at our Yard Sale booth on opening weekend.  These softball pants will be deeply discounted so don’t miss out!

Fundraisers

As you know, The Newmarket Minor Softball Association is a not-for-profit organization.  It is run entirely by volunteers.  We want to keep offering great programs for kids and adults alike!  Fundraising is part of what helps us to do that! This year, we are fundraising for a couple of different focuses.  First, we are fundraising for new catching equipment which is badly needed for the Association.  Equipment is what keeps us all safe so it really is quite important.  We are also fundraising with some program development in mind.  We are hoping to develop a couple of new programs for next year which include Adult Co-Ed and also an Adapted Softball Program for children with special needs.   This year, we will be having two fundraisers;

The first fundraiser, A Spice Above Dips, Spreads and Dressings will start next week, right at the beginning of the season.  The campaign will run until opening weekend and all order forms should be handed into coaches or Board Members by the end of opening weekend.  Alternately, you may scan and email your order form to directorofmarketing.nmsa@outlook.com

The second fundraiser is back by popular demand; McGregor Meats.  We are planning to have that fundraiser available to you after the July long weekend.  Stay tuned for more information!

Volunteers

We are still looking for volunteers that would be willing to assist us from time to time.  A Season long commitment is not required and you do not need to have experience in playing softball yourself!  Please email Alanna at treasurer.nmsa@outlook.com to communicate your interest.
